The Morning Shift

This is an article for all of those hard working people who get up in the mornings to be able to provide for themselves and their families. This article will especially be for those who work retail.
Those of us who are unfortunate enough, working in retail, receive the morning shift. For some of us, it’s pretty ok because we’re morning people. Although, for people like me who are raging insomniacs and refuse to take the proper medication, it’s awful. Waking up before seven o’clock isn’t exactly my forte.
Customers who come into stores bright and early are pretty smart, though. The early bird gets the worm. But sometimes the early bird is an extremely cranky one who can’t find their worm and blames it on every employee they can. Let’s take a brief moment to agree that some customers shouldn’t come into stores before ten o’clock. They’ll hem and haw at you as well as huff and puff if you can’t find what they’re looking for or complete their transaction quick enough.
Another thing about working the morning shift is phone calls. Why does anyone use the phone at eight o’clock in the morning? I hardly ever use the phone anymore, anyhow. My phone talking skills are quite rusty since all of this newfangled technology has come out in recent years. Needless to say, I’m awkward when I speak on the telephone. When someone calls the store, I answer with the shpeil taped on the top of the land line and that’s as far as I can get without stumbling all over my own words.
My next question, however, is why should I complain about the morning shift? Who am I to complain about waking up at seven in the morning to go to work and essentially provide for myself. There are millions of great, friendly, hard working Americans who do it everyday. There are also millions of great, friendly Americans who are stuck in the unemployment line.
I get to work sometimes and people will complain about it being so early, including myself. You might also find yourself taking part in this. However, I think we need to be more appreciative of the morning shift. We’re the lucky ones who landed the job and are making minimum wage, or more, and are able to bring the bread to our own table. While bread may be the only thing we can afford off an hours worth of work at minimum wage, we’re still bringing something home.

The Highly-Anticipated, Much Dreaded, and Bittersweet Senior Year

Congratulations! You’re going into your Senior year of high school. I know how you feel because I’m going into mine too. You’re ready to get the heck out of that school and go off to college, or the military if that’s how you’re rolling. But I think we need to get to the heart of things, here.
High school. We spent years romanticizing high school. We couldn’t wait to finally call ourselves high schoolers. Then we got half way through our freshman year and said “Get me out now”. We whined and complained through all the drama and made ourselves Starbucks addicts to keep us awake when studying for finals and the dreaded ACT/SAT testing(I don’t know about you guys, but my pockets were definitely emptied at Starbucks during testing). We watched jealously as the classes ahead of us graduated. We’ve been counting down the days we could say goodbye to the walls we loathed after seeing them 9 months out the year. But then something changed. We finished off the last final and said, “Hooray! We’re finally Seniors!” Then we realized, “Wait, I have less than a year to figure out my life.” Suddenly, we want everything and everyone to slow down. We don’t want to figure out our lives, we don’t want to leave all of our friends, we don’t want to see the halls, where millions of memories were made, go, and we certainly don’t want to say goodbye to moms homemade cooking when we leave for college.
I think this tells you exactly why Senior year is a mix of so many emotions. We want to get out of there, but we don’t want to figure out our lives. We want to leave behind all the drama, but we can’t say goodbye to all the friendships and memories made.
Every year I attend graduation for my school and I say, “I can’t wait for this to be me.” The truth is, though, I really can. While I do know what I want to do with my life and I’m ready to do it, I can’t bring myself to the last days of almost 12 years of my life and say goodbye to all my friends.

An Introduction to Myself

Hi!
If you’re reading this, congratulations to me! Someone IS reading my blog. Let me tell you about myself. My name is Sydney. I’m in my senior year of high school and I can’t wait to get the heck out of it. My goal is to go to college in the big city and study photojournalism. I have the photography part down pretty solid. The journalism part, however, not so solid. Which is one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog.
The other reason I wanted to start a blog was because I realized that I have a lot of opinions. I might have too many opinions but who cares? That’s the point of a blog, right? To write about your opinions along with other things like your life and pop culture.
So this is the introduction to my blog. I’ll tell you my opinions and how I really feel about them. And I definitely won’t hold anything back because then what’s the point of sharing. Welcome to The Daily Truths๐Ÿ˜Š
